On the question of 'has 'trans' always been around', I have inside knowledge! Nearly 40 years ago I started at Switchboard to help LGB people. We were not including T officially at that point. There were VERY few calls about gender, from people claiming a trans identity, or describing unhappiness with their sexed body.
Over the years I took thousands of calls. Virtually NO T callers. As we would have been the closest that would have been available we definitely would have got those T calls, and we just didn't...
In a similar way 'gender' has been given a new meaning in recent years. As someone in their early 60s I always knew gender as meaning biological sex, because back when I was young sex was a 'rude' word and was something adults did! And adults used the word gender because they were from an even earlier time when you definitely didn't talk about sex.
It is indeed a toxic mind/body dualist ideology, I've been saying that for years and years now. And it's absolute catnip for introverted narcissists with poor coping skills and dark triad tendencies. Absolute mind cancer.
Having grown up in a generally well meaning but ultimately mad Christian Fundamentalist community, I have to say, you have shot the bullseye out. I have thought much the same thing, that this is all as faith based and immune to reason and critical thinking as a wildfire wilderness tent meeting revival.
I cannot wait for the backsliding to begin in earnest. I'm getting tired of having so little company out here in the heretic out of bounds where I've been living. I thank you for upholding reason and the enlightenment and free arts. All are precious. Three cheers, as usual, Mr. Kavanagh.
From the man who first (to my knowledge) coined the term “gender abattoir” I was not disappointed; now I have “political transvestitism”. A belief in gender ideology requires unquestioning faith, and like other religions, heretics and apostates must be silenced. I very much look forward to the next instalment. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this fascinating piece, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next. I just have one quibble and that’s your dismissal of the Marxist influence. I think that Marxism was more of a philosophy of utopia and anarchy than just economics and as a result it gave rise to cultural Marxism and then Post Modernism and Queer Theory. I think that the philosophy of gender ideology arose from left wing thinking but that right wing opportunism saw a way of making money and jumped on the bandwagon. What your piece clearly illustrates though, is how complicated the subject is and how difficult it is to explain to those who can’t be bothered to look beyond the glitter and rainbows.
This was extremely fascinating and makes me wish I could observe you in an actual court. I'm kind of in awe of how you argue your case! :) Please do more of these! Very compelling and you hit all the arguments.
Indeed we are in an age of madness. The lunatics certainly run the asylum.. I despair... But I keep trying, like you, to educate and heal where I can. That a y court should make such a decision...is so bizarre that I can barely address it. Great work.
The subject matter is certainly unique to the times we live in, but the process is not. In psychoanalytic terms it is known as the return of the repressed, when what ought to have remained unconscious spills into the social world and creates chaos for everyone. To live in a flattened world where what is inner and what outer are indistinguishable is to live in madness. We are not experiencing a religion, far from it! We are experiencing the equivalent of a mental breakdown in groups, organisations, and societies
That's a very interesting point J, I perceive it politically as a religion, but the inner and outer worlds point is intriguing and sounds intuitively right in terms of the walking talking porn point and similar.
Thank you Dennis, I have found your analysis deeply fascinating and enlightening. You take apart the aspects of genderism that niggle and aggravate and feel completely wrong, but are hard to clearly disentangle and identify. If it is fundamentally a religious belief, this explains why it is so hard, even in a non-contentious social context, to even bring it up. There is also so much that is never referred to by mainstream media - for example Woman’s Hour discussing the impact of the Supreme Court decision entirely as if the only affected parties were the men claiming to be women, a sort of holy class of victim, without - apparently - any knowledge of or recognition of the fact that a proportion of those are autogynephiles, or men who get sexually aroused by displaying themselves dressed as women, and considering what that might mean to the women who have been told to share their spaces with them. Thanks again, I will be listening again as there is a lot to absorb, and look forward very much to the next instalments. It is so helpful to have this level of thinking, it acts as ballast.
Part three will cover sex and death cults up to the Zizians. If there's a common thread over the last two thousand years, it seems to be fringe Christian sects flipping into sexual anarchism and paganism. Those sects then attempt to influence the mainstream before imploding in self-induced chaos.
This is absolutely a cult! It's not just a religion which most religions that are not cults (because religions can be a cult) want to be benevolent for those who believe. You have to go back to the first doctors/surgeons who wanted to believe the delusions for their own psychopathic reasons. Those who thought they were the opposite sex had a delusion for a myriad of reasons - it is a maladaptive coping mechanism. The idea that one can be the opposite sex has morphed into "born in the wrong body" via a gender identity. The T's (WPATH) manipulated their movement into mainstream by co-opting the gay movement to gain acceptance & sponsorship along with continued psychopathic medicine enabled by pharma & docs/therapy/sexologists. In the US, Dr. Paul McHugh shut down JHU when their data showed that their patients on average did not fare better with SRS/hormones even if they said they are "satisfied".
Even the Dutch protocol was only based on the fact that activists thought if they could pass and undergo treatment as a child, they would be happier.
The signs of a cult are there - what trips people up is the outdated mode that there has to be "A leader". The leader is long dead, but the ideology has continued through a group of disciples - WPATH.
I like the phrase “wrong body theology”, it seems like humans are hard wired to believe in “something” and with the waning of traditional religions this was primed to fill the void.
Thank you so much for this Dennis.

Cheers mate, Doesn't your experience on that that just say it all?

A perfectly fair and very interesting point.
This was extremely fascinating and makes me wish I could observe you in an actual court. I'm kind of in awe of how you argue your case! :) Please do more of these! Very compelling and you hit all the arguments.
Ah cheers Amy :)
Yes. If I need help in court on this issue, you’d be the guy to call on!
If I needed a Barrister to argue for me in court I'd definitely want Dennis!
Really great to have you speak this, thank you. (though am only able to be a free-loader here)
Fear not, all my stuff is free :)
Great, bc I look to be broke for the foreseeable.
You’re a great thinker and voice on this.
The audio suits you and the Substack well together, infinitely preferable to video.
I've got a face for radio mate :)

Great analysis, Dennis.
I like 'political transvetism' - might start using that!
Will cross post in due course.
Dusty
I agree, what are trans rights anyway apart from the taking of rights from others?
Cross posted😊

Dusty
Hey many thanks mate
and have started using 'political transvestism' 😊
Yes, yes Mr Dennis!
You're always enjoyable and enlightening to listen to*, so I’m looking forward to this 😁
*Here, that is, anyway - I imagine a few professional wrong ‘uns may beg to differ…

Thanks for this, Dennis. I am currently writing a series on the same topic for Genspect. Part one is on the Gnostics https://genspect.substack.com/p/is-gender-a-new-religion-or-a-very
and part two covers Jung's insertion of Gnosticism and alchemy into psychotherapy https://genspect.substack.com/p/jung-the-red-book-and-the-gnostic
Part three will cover sex and death cults up to the Zizians. If there's a common thread over the last two thousand years, it seems to be fringe Christian sects flipping into sexual anarchism and paganism. Those sects then attempt to influence the mainstream before imploding in self-induced chaos.
This sounds like fascinating stuff Daniel, have bookmarked and look forward to reading.

Just to add, Liz Truss & Kemi Badenoch were instrumental in preventing self ID going though.
Although it took years for the Tories to understand that it wasn't just a youth fashion, and to realise how it threatened their political hinterland

Absolutely loved this Dennis. It’s good to hear your clarity on the subject and your masterful command of the English language.
More please!
