Superb analysis and hilarious. I nearly spat my drink out a couple of times! When someone accuses Birdy of appropriating non-binary characteristics for having short hair and wearing glasses, they reveal a shallow and prescriptive perception of the sexes. Humans can be whatever they want to be without resorting to surgery or hormone treatment. Dennis nails it when he says "it's called having a personality". Coincidentally I mention Bowie in my first article. He opened up a whole landscape of maleness. One of the reasons he inspired such devotion is that he showed us that far from being weird, it was desirable to be different. Ironically, this current movement is one of the most restrictive, conforming tribes ever. Thank you both. Brilliant.
Im near 40, went to dinner with my parents and my partner last night and finally came out to them about this issue. My Dad is a godfather to a Trans-Male (actually a Lesbian) who has had every surgery. He had (Dad) to leave the table twice. Hes been so supportive, even went to court to give a character witness for his “Godson” who beat up a taximan in a racist Testosterone attack (was a teacher at the time and took a lot of bad behaviour before moving on from the profession). Now this Trans-Male lives abroad in asia, prostitutes himself and has split his parents up with accusations whilst ripping them off. The wake of destruction by this one individual who took advantage of so much good will is beyond belief. I still see her as a victim, but certainly not without some psychotic intention to take advantage and abuse other people, many of whom who have lost huge income and family support.
I think the boys vs girls thing is an interesting topic of how people treat them. Perhaps Girls are encouraged to conform to a social normativity (be that trans) and that boys are valued in a hetro-normative function, and excluded when feminised.. just speculating, but it seems to me there is a socialisation that goes with Transing a girl to a boy, but an odd boy choosing to Trans has to search out for a new version of a family unit.. which could mean there could be more of a net to catch a detransing Girl than with a Boy. Pitfalls all around as clearly there is more incentive for a Girl to Trans in the first-place as a Girl to a Boy. (Speaking specifically of younger Transers)
I was awake in the night and did listen. Now it’s 4.3o and I’m feeling chatty. But the reason I’m writing is that Birdy said going to LGBA feels is bit cringey for someone hetero. I’m coming and am now worried!! What are your thoughts on this?
Come along please and don't feel in any way uncomfortable - beating gender is about forming coalitions where we can bring different life experiences and angles to it - plus there's a great Disco :)
Great! I'm coming!
I look forward to seeing you there! Gay Men's Network have a (rather flashy) stand I'll be hanging round like a bad smell :)
Great! I’ll come and say hello … x
Hot and Spicy Monster Munch all the way!!
If by that you mean Pickled Onion Monster Munch I agree
Haha.. its just a step too far down the bad breath department for me..

LGBA has a good proportion of hetero supporters who will be going. They're a minority, but still welcome. You shouldn't be worried.
