Here in California, a law has been passed that has made it very difficult for law enforcement to intervene with women being sex trafficked. The law states that police cannot use how a person is dressed as justification for suspicion of prostitution. The justification, according to the sponsor, Assemblyman Weiner, is that this has led to harassment of trans women.
The comments by the doctor in the clip were chilling indeed. It makes me wonder how the objectification of women has contributed to the situation we're in. Historically, women have been the primary consumers of cosmetic surgery and exogenous hormones, so it seems like an obvious next step for the medical industry to convince moms their kids need surgery as well. And what better tool to use than threatening them with their child's suicide? This opens up a wider discussion about the way sexual objectification contributes to lowered self-esteem and body hatred which fuels the "beauty" industry. For a long time, this was targeted mainly at girls and women but the proliferation of gender ideology has meant that boys and men are now also exploitable markets.
